Back in 2018, we covered what is being done by [Andrew Sinden] To make a lightgun that could work on modern television. The project was looking for funding via Kickstarter, but the campaign fell well short of its goal, at least in part due to doubts about the technology involved. At that time it seemed that the story would end there.
but we were recently pointed to a charming interview with [Andrew] who went in Guardian A few months ago which not only tells the rest of the story, but ends with a happy ending - after years of hard work, Sinden Lightgun now available for purchase, This isn't exactly the turn-key product that some people would prefer, as there are a fair number of hoops that one must jump through to bag some eponymous waterfowl duck huntBut nothing that should scare off the average hackaday reader.
The final version of the hardware ditches the realistic shotgun beauty it inherited from the Wii gun accessory it was designed to fit in, and now features a brightly colored pistol enclosure that won't look out of place. Virtua Cop machine. It's also received an optional recoil solenoid for force feedback, though that's already over $60 for the $100 price tag for the base model.
we are glad to see [Andrew] recognize the importance of Getting Linux Support for the Software Side of ThingsBecause it enables the development of a pre-configured RetroPie image for the Raspberry Pi 4. While you are not forced to emulate on the Pi, for those who want to have the occasional zombie blast on their desktop, Windows and x86 Linux are supported as well.
Often times, when we cover a project here at Hackaday it's a one-time deal: someone has a special need or desire, a gadget is created to fulfill it, and so forth. There is nothing wrong with that, but there is a sense of pride when we see a project of this community grow into something more. While not every hacked piece of hardware we put together Has the potential to be the next Arduboy either sinden lightgunWe like to think we've already covered the next big project products Success story and don't know it yet.
thanks for doing [Itay] for the tip.
