International Business Machines (IBM) is a global technology company providing hardware, software, cloud-based services and cognitive computing.

Founded in 1911 by Charles Ranlet Flint after the merger of four companies in Upstate New York, it was originally called a computing-tabulating-recording company. In 1924 it will be renamed IBM.

Given that the company is over 100 years old, it is not surprising that it has had to adapt to different technical trends over the decades.

The company is now becoming an infrastructure player and more cloud and data driven.

Dubbed ‘Big Blue’, the company offers cloud products in the form of Bloomix, Softlayer Cloud and Data Analytics or Cognitive Computing capabilities, including the Watson Supercomputer.
