July 2, 2010: On this day, Apple publicly announced “Antenna Gate” for the first time, officially acknowledging the reception problems of the iPhone 4, which is an excellent phone.
Since its launch in June 2010, it has become a real hit, breaking pre-order and first-day sales records.
In an appeal to customers, Apple acknowledged the problem and said it had launched an investigation into the matter. However, the news did not reduce the controversy surrounding the antenna situation.
The topic of “antenna gates” came up when individual owners started reporting missed calls. The glitch occurs when the user holds the iPhone 4 in his left hand while blocking the phone’s small antenna hole.
iPhone 4 reception problem: program bug?
Although Apple blamed the “antenna gate” on a software glitch in a message to customers, many believe the problem was caused by Jony Quince’s decision to remove the plastic antenna from previous iPhones. Cupertino announced that they will fix it by releasing a free update for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.
The situation escalated after the publication of the prominent trade publication Consumer Reports, which said it does not recommend buying a new Apple smartphone.
In order to calm the media turmoil, Steve Jobs returned early from his family vacation in Hawaii and held a press conference. He honestly acknowledged Antennagate’s problems and offered the customer a free iPhone 4 case that solved the problem. This device bug has been fixed in the following versions of iPhone.
It wasn’t until 2012 that Apple finally ended the dispute.
