I have been an apple user for a year. Now, as an Apple blogger, it’s time to reflect on my experience of seeing it from a unique perspective.
background
Android has always been my favorite phone. I accept the stigma that apples are so expensive that I find them unaffordable. As someone who has researched its products, I have never owned it. I don’t even know much about Apple devices.
When I bought my first budget smartphone as a college student, I was impressed with the camera and the size of the Samsung Galaxy line. The iPhone’s small size and square shape made me repulse like royalty. I had an Android tablet at the time, so I felt comfortable staying in the Android family. Also, all the non-smartphones I’ve owned before are Samsungs; those devices are good for me.
However, everything changed last year when I became an Apple user for the first time.
Reasons to switch to Apple products
Back in July 2021, I found myself at a local Verizon store in desperate need of an upgrade. My current phone at the time was a Samsung Galaxy S7 that I bought in 2016. When I finally upgraded, it left my phone five years old. While I was thinking about the iPhone in 2016, I had to rush to buy my S7 and I wasn’t ready for the transition.
Over time, I got tired of how slow the S7 was and got ready for a faster, more modern device. YouTube has become a source of knowledge for researching cell phones. While researching the iPhone 12, I finally found an iPhone that I thought looked good and matched my desire for a simple interface.
iPhone deals
When I was at Verizon, I did all the deals with a great sales rep looking to find the right package for me. We chose the purple iPhone 12, which gave me a special discount on the Apple Watch SE. Another thing that motivated me to use the iPhone was that, a few hours later, I was interviewed at a local Apple Store. Interestingly, the first phone call I got on the first iPhone was from Apple itself!
A month later, I started working as a specialist at the Apple Store. You might be thinking; how does a person with no experience with Apple products get a job at the company? Maybe my previous experience in the hospitality industry will help me. In the Apple Store, it’s more about your people skills than your knowledge of Apple. It doesn’t hurt that I’m a former Walt Disneyland employee and the hiring manager is a huge Disney fan.
iOS was a culture shock for Apple’s first users
Switching from Android to iPhone was a complete culture shock for me. When browsing iOS, I feel like I’m in a foreign country. However, I got it right and started enjoying my new iPhone despite its ease of use.
One thing I especially miss about Android is a little blinking light that alerts me to notifications when my phone is in sleep mode. Even after a year, I still want to see a blinking light telling me to check my phone.
Benefits of using Apple products
iPhone is that simple. Its simplicity is so appealing that several members of my family also switched to Apple last year. The integration of all my Apple devices is great; I never knew the ecosystem of devices could be so coordinated. Also, don’t get me started with a Mac!
A year later, I know all the details of my iPhone and I really enjoy the experience. In the 7 years I’ve worked with the Samsung Galaxy, I can barely make a phone call for several days. Now it’s a relief for me to have a phone that doesn’t complicate my life and is a pleasure to use.
Products I have used
Apple products I bought last year include (thanks to Apple Store discounts):
Will I go back to Android?
I would totally go back to Android. No specific reason; maybe I just miss the Samsung brand? I know people love the advanced customization that Android offers; I really don’t care. Now, when it comes to computers, I’m completely back to Windows as my main focus. I actually have an HP laptop and I love having both Windows and Mac.
My future as an Apple user
I’m very happy for the year I was obsessed with Apple. But in my sophomore year, I wanted to change a few things.
Ideally, I’d like to use an iPad that’s more like a Mac. As much as I love the iPad, depending on what you’re doing, working without it can be terrible. I use an iPad (9th gen), which is a great tablet, but not a heavy-duty multitasking machine.
Another thing I look forward to in the future as an Apple user is to become a more advanced camera user. Since the iPhone camera has been a game changer, I need to know how to actually take good pictures. If there are fans of iPhone cameras, I would like to give some advice.
When did you first become an Apple user? I’d love to know what brought you to your Apple device? Let me know in the comments!
