NVIDIA has stopped selling software licenses for its game streaming service in Russia. This may affect the operation of the Sberbank and Yandex supercomputers.

According to Kommersant. NVIDIA refuses to renew software licenses due to cloud gaming services in Russia.

In particular, the issue will affect servers working with NVIDIA Grid technology. This license allows physical video cards to be used on multiple virtual machines at the same time, allowing more players to connect to cloud services.

The founder of Loudplay, which provides an Nvidia-powered cloud gaming service, said:

“For those companies that use the Nvidia Grid system to a greater extent, the end of the license will mean a higher price for the service. So if earlier the company could serve eight players simultaneously on a single server Two Nvidia Grid cards, now it only offers two.”

NVIDIA does not block purchased licenses, however, if something goes wrong, supercomputers based on NVIDIA A100 and DGX-2 GPUs may start having problems. They are used by the services of Sberbank, Yandex and MTS.

For now, Sber declined to comment. Yandex said their supercomputer “continues to operate in standard mode.” MTS explained that NVIDIA’s decision will not affect the operation of the supercomputer.
