Meta shows off several VR prototypes: ultra-thin, retina resolution, variable focus, 20,000 nits brightness

IT House June 21 news, Meta CEO Zuckerberg today showed off several new VR prototypes, bringing new heights in resolution, brightness and size that existing devices can't reach.

The first prototype device is called "butterscotch(Butterscotch)”, which highlights the increased pixel count, achieving what the team calls “Retina resolution.” The prototype achieves a resolution of 55px/deg,2.5x Quest 2This enables users with 20/20 vision to clearly read the smallest letters on an eye chart.

The second prototype is called "half dome”, the prototype uses eye-tracking and zoom optics to give virtual scenes a natural depth of field as the user shifts their gaze from a nearby object to a distant one.

The third prototype is "starburst”, which could be the first VR headset to support HDR. Starbursts can be surprisingly bright 20000 nits.

The final prototype shown is "Holographic Cake 2the VR headset Meta has built so far that is ready to usethinnest and lightestVR headset. The goal in the future is to switch to holographic lenses, thereby further reducing the thickness of the device.

IT House understands that Meta is developing two VR product lines - one affordable and aimed at consumers; the other aimed at professionals, using cutting-edge technology. Officials say it will take several years for the prototype to hit the market.
