[Rostislav Persion] has been interested in making for a while Small, Portable EMP Devices Capable of interfering with nearby electronics. In these EMP devices, high voltage is used to make portable spark gap generator, whose operation in turn creates an electromagnetic pulse capable of resetting or scratching nearby electronics such as pocket calculators.

Bridging adjacent holes narrows the spark gap, resulting in more frequent flutter.

His Original EMP Box Design Rely on a spark gap created from metal screws threaded into a clear plastic insulator, but this latest design ditches the fussy adjustments and relies on performance. By cutting a row of plated perfboard holes and soldering high voltage terminals to each end, the empty holes in the middle form the essential parts of the spark gap.

It's even more adjustable: A bus bridges adjacent holes with solder to effectively reduce gaps. As far as generating high voltage is concerned, a DC voltage multiplier from Amazon takes care of that. Watch the device perform some calculator reset in the short video below.

Looking for high-voltage experiments that aren't so sketchy? Get yourself a Van de Graaf generator, some metal balls, and a little oil, and make some art,
