Halo Infinite’s co-op mode is finally coming! The appointment is scheduled for July to allow early access for members of the Halo Insider program.
Halo Infinite co-op mode coming to early access this summer
The first notable information is that the Halo Infinite co-op campaign is supposed to launch the week of July 15th, about two weeks later. Relying on Xboxygen to let you know the exact date and time, we obviously monitor all of this.
Co-op saves are valid for all players
We also learned that co-op campaigns don’t need to be saved separately. It’s obviously possible to create a backup dedicated to co-op, but the co-op mode works well as the main progression of the game.
Likewise, the progress of players on both sides will be the same as the campaign progresses, regardless of who is the leader of the game. “I’ve played a lot of co-op games and player 2’s progress doesn’t matter, but I always find it disappointing”, said Isaac Bender, software engineer at Halo Infinite. Therefore, all progress made in the game, whether solo or co-op, will be preserved.
I could play the single-player campaign, go into co-op for a few hours, then go back to single-player, and all mission progress, collectibles earned, gear found, achievements earned, and upgrades made in either session would remain the same. The days of playing someone else’s game without progressing are over.
So if you’re really having a hard time collecting a skull on your own, you can go to a co-op session with a friend and if they collect it while you’re at that session, you’ll get it too!
Regarding the different platforms, we now confirm that the co-op mode will be exactly the same on Xbox and PC, and supports any combination of PC and Xbox (up to 4 players), just like playing on Xbox Cloud Gaming. All co-op games are hosted on dedicated servers.
Range limits between different players
To the question of whether one player will be able to start a mission while the other transports the camp to another place on the map, the answer is yes. But there is a limit so players don’t move too far from each other. The developers at 343 Industries refer to this area as the Action Zone, and it’s the maximum distance players in Fireteam can stay away from each other while exploring and completing challenges in Zeta Halo.
If you get too far from the Fireteam, you will receive a warning asking you to rejoin the team. If you ignore this warning and continue, you will be eliminated and respawn at the nearest teammate.
The warning radius is set to 800 feet, or approximately 243 meters. When a player reaches 1000 feet (about 300 meters), he will be eliminated and return to a point closer to his ally.
Unlock new achievements
Who said co-op campaigns would unlock new achievements in Halo Infinite! The developers haven’t provided many details for now, but explained to us that the new success is for mission replays and the opportunities offered by the co-op itself.
Some achievements to unlock will represent challenges to achieve, while others will be more about teamwork. For example, one of the new achievements requires you to destroy an enemy with a gravity hammer from the back of a vehicle driven by a friend.
As a reminder, you must be enrolled in the Halo Insider program to have a chance to participate in the Halo Infinite Co-op Early Access in July. If all goes according to plan, everyone can access it in August.
